Cirrhosis of the Liver

It is a condition where scar tissue gradually replaces healthy tissue in liver. This happens over time. But, if it is detected early, there is a chance to keep the problems in check. As the change of healthy tissue to scar tissue is irreversible, in most cases this disease can be fatal. Cirrhosis can be triggered due to the following:

-          Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection

-          Alcoholic addiction

-          Obesity or high cholesterol level

In astrology, Jupiter represents liver and infections are caused by Rahu. Cndition of  Jupiter and jala tatva Rasis should be looked into for obesity. Fifth house also represents Liver among other things. Saturn is the karaka for alcoholic addiction, causes such condition when afflicted. Influence of Mars or Rahu can aggravate the condition. An afflicted Venus could lead one in the path of intoxication. Eighth house or Scorpio should be looked into for intoxication. If one studies these factors in a chart, it is not difficult to spot possibilities for Cirrhosis of the liver.

To summarize, one could look for the following factors:

-          Relationship between Jupiter and the fifth house/lord

-          Affliction to Jupiter/fifth house by Saturn and or by Rahu

-          Conditions for intoxication

Example 1 Rubén Darío

He was a Nicaraguan oet who initiated the Spanish-American literary movement known as modernismo (modernism) that flourished at the end of the 19th century. Darío has had a great and lasting influence on 20th-century Spanish literature and journalism. He has been praised as the "Prince of Castilian Letters" and undisputed father of the modernismo literary movement. His alcoholism caused him frequent health problems and psychological crises. His health began deteriorating enormously in the last few years of his life. (Courtesy: Wikipedia).

Dario married in 1889 to Rafaela Contreras; she passed away in 1892. He took to heavy drinking and a subsequent marriage ended in divorce. He died 1/18/1916, one week after his 49th birthday, in Leon. Cirrhosis has been cited as the cause of death (Courtesy: Astrodatabank).

Conditions for Cirrhosis seen in the chart:

-          Relationship between Jupiter and the fifth house/lord

o   Jupiter owns 5^th house

-          Affliction to Jupiter/fifth house by Saturn and or by Rahu

o   Jupiter is placed in its sign of debilitation

o   Jupiter in influenced by Rahu and gets the aspect of retro Mars

o   Jupiter is with Saturn in Navamsha

o   Jupiter disposits Ketu and malefic Mercury

o   Fifth house has malefic Mercury aspected by Mars and Saturn

-          Conditions for intoxication

o   Venus is in Papakartari yoga

o   Saturn is in Rasi Sandhi

o   Eighth lord Mars aspects Rahu who influences Saturn and Saturn in turn aspects the 8^th house

Looks like he took to alcohol in the late 80s, probably during Sat-Rah period. Cirrhosis could have started developing during Sat-Jup period. And, he passed away due to the same problem during Ket-Sat period. It maybe noted that Jupiter disosits Ketu and is with Saturn in Navamsha.

Example 2 Priscilla Lawson

She was an American actress best known for her role as Princess Aura in the original Flash Gordon serial (1936). She was not an alcoholic and was not obese. On August 27, 1958, Lawson died at 44, due to cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by a duodenal ulcer.

Note: A careful observation of the chart will reveal that there is a strong relationship between Jupiter, 5^th lord Venus and the afflicter Saturn. Note that there is a Srinkhala between Venus, Jupiter and Saturn.

Conditions for Cirrhosis seen in the chart:

-          Relationship between Jupiter and the fifth house/lord

o   Jupiter is in Srinkhala with 5L Venus and Saturn

o   Jupiter disposits 5L Venus

o   5L Venus is in the nakshatra of Jupiter

-          Affliction to Jupiter/fifth house by Saturn and or by Rahu

o   Jupiter is aced in the 8^th house in the sign of debilitation

o   Jupiter is paced in the sign of Saturn

o   Rahu is in the nakshatra of Jupiter

o   Jupiter is aspected by 6L Mars

o   Rahu influences the 5^th house

o   Rahu influences 5^th Lord Venus

-          Conditions for intoxication

o   Not seen

It appears that she might have developed Cirrhosis probably due to an infection as she was neither an alcoholic nor obese. Influence of Rahu on Jupiter, Venus and also on the 5^th house indicates a strong possibility of hepatitis infection. She passed away during Ven-Rah period.

Twins of Irom Sharmila

Irom Sharmila became a national headline as she went on a fast for 16 years to protest about the problems faced by people of her state. After breaking her fast, she got married to a British citizen and settled down in Southern India. She was in the news again when she gave birth to twins recently in a Bangalore hospital.

I thought it would be interesting to check out my theory on twins using this case and determine whether the twins are identical or not.

According to the news reports, she delivered two baby girls on May 12, 2019 at 9:21 am. I presumed this is the birth time of the first baby and wanted to find out the birth time of the second baby using my theory on birth time rectification. 

Mars was sitting on the Navamsha border. A small change in time could put it in a different Navamsha. Hence, this became a very Ayanamsha sensitive case. After examining different Ayanamshas, I settled for 'Traditional Lahiri' Ayanamsha. Following is the chart for the given time:

After accounting for Parivartana both in Rasi and in Navamsha, Mars acting vargottama in its MT sign is the strongest planet in the chart. Though Lagna lord Mercury and 12th Lord Venus are conjunct, my theory of birth time rectification is still applicable as there is a strong vargottama planet in the chart. Using longitude of Mars as the time indicator for the first baby, the rectification time arrived at was 9:22:01. Venus being the second strongest planet being vargottama in a friendly sign, I used the longitude of Venus to determine the rectified birth time for the second baby. It turned out to be 9:24:20. Since, I had some contacts in the hospital where Irom delivered, I contacted a doctor there to get the actual birth times of the two babies. The time I got from this doctor is as follows:

Baby 1 - 9:21:50

Baby 2 - 9:22:40

I was happy to observe that the hospital was recording seconds also. Though the actual and rectified birth times for baby 1 are pretty close (difference of 11 seconds only), the difference for the second baby is pretty large (about one and a half minutes). Hence, it would need further investigation to determine the cause for the difference. If both times differed by similar amounts of time (even if it is one and a half minutes), it would have been acceptable.

Next, to verify the planetary conditions for birth of twins, my theory highlights the following two combinations:

[Rule 1]

 Take a look at the Lagna lord or its dispositor. One of the two following conditions can be seen: [Rule 1]

• LL or its dispositor is involved in a Parivartana/Srinkhala[2] either in Rasi or in Constellation, or
• LL or its dispositor disposits its own Rasi dispositor in Constellation (mixed Parivartana?), or
• LL or its dispositor is closely conjunct with its dispositor (this condition has been modified after the publication)

[Rule 2]
Lord of 11th house (representing multiplicity) or the karaka of 11th house Jupiter influences Lagna or Lagna Lord by ownership or by conjunction or by graha drishti.

In this case, the LL is Mercury and its dispositor is Mars. Here first part of Rule-1 is satisfied as Mercury and Mars are in Parivartana. Since, LL Mercury is placed in the11th house and is in Parivartana with 11 lord Mars, Rule-2 above gets satisfied.

The next step was to determine if the two girls are identical or not. My theory states the following rule:

• The 3rd lord and 11th lord are in close conjunction, hardly 1 degree apart! (or it could be within the same nakshatra pada), or
• There is a Parivartana/Srinkhala between the 3rd lord and the 11th lord either in Rasi or in Constellation.

In this particular case, though 3rd lord Sun is placed in the 11th house, it is neither conjunct with 11L Mars nor Mars is placed in the 3rd house. Hence, the girls are not identical. However, notice that half of the condition is satisfied. Also, by parivartana Mars acts as if it is placed in the 11th house where Sun is also placed. It indirectly satisfies the first part of Rule-3 above. This made me think if this is a case of half identical twins or Sesquizygotic. This happens when the egg splits into two before fertilization and they get fertilized by two different sperms. Since the egg has identical properties for both the babies they could be half identical. However, the doctor I contacted at the hospital could only confirm that the babies are not identical.

Vitiligo (pronounced vit-ill-EYE-go) is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Similar patches also appear on both the mucous membranes (tissues that line the inside of the mouth and nose) and the retina (inner layer of the eyeball). The hair that grows on areas affected by vitiligo sometimes turns white [2]. Appearance is what is affected the most here. The native will not experience any pain or any other physical discomfort.

Married Twice – to the same person!

Is there an astrostamp in their horoscopes?

It is quite common that the married couple divorce nowadays. But, it is not very common that these divorcees remarry in due course of time. However, there are many such examples in front of us. This is really intriguing! What makes them do so? Are they really soul mates? Or, is there a special attraction/bond between the two? If so, whether such a factor can be seen in their horoscopes? These were some of the questions that were haunting and a study was taken up to check out the charts of people who have married the same person after divorcing that person beforehand.

Many such examples were available among the Hollywood celebrities and authentic birth details of such people were also available in Astrodatabank.

During the study, it was noticed that not only some people have married the same person twice, but they divorced that person for the second time as well! This was something strange, but indicated a strong love-hate relationship between the two. Probably, there was not enough active life left to marry the same person for the third time.

Angelina Jolie underwent double Mastectomy

Angelina Jolie has taken many bold decisions in her life and this one was probably the boldest so far. Angelina decided to go for double mastectomy to reduce the chances of getting breast cancer. She says that with this action of her, the chances of her getting breast cancer has come down to 5% from an earlier probability of 87%. It is great to see Brad Pitt fully supported her in this. The following lines have been taken from USA Today which reported the story on her:

About one in 500 women have a mutation in genes called BRCA1 or BRCA2, which are involved in repairing genetic mistakes.

Jolie said she was tested for the mutation because her mother died at age 56, nearly a decade after being diagnosed.

Having a mutation in BRCA1 gives women a 54% chance of developing breast cancer and a 39% chance of ovarian cancer by age 70, according to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. Having a double mastectomy can reduce those risks by more than 90%, although there is still a small risk that cancer could develop in the skin left behind, or in the armpit.

A couple welcomed two sets of identical twins delivered at a Houston hospital on Valentine's Day. According to The Woman's Hospital of Texas where the babies were born, the odds of such a birth naturally is one in 70 million.

Tressa and Manuel Montalvo became parents to the tandem of twins last week after they were delivered within minutes of each other at the hospital. The boys developed in separate placenta and were delivered at 31 weeks.

Ace and Blaine were born at 8:51 a.m. weighing 3 pounds, 10 ounces, and 3 pounds, 15 ounces. Cash and Dylan were just one minute behind, born at 8:52 a.m. weighing 2 pounds, 15 ounces, and 3 pounds, 6 ounces.

And, in this post, I will demonstrate once more the applicability of Krishna's BTR Technique in rectifying the birth time for these twins. This news item reported by BBC attracted my attention as this is unheard of before and that I had done some research on twin's charts a few years back. The link to the actual story is given below:

The story goes like this:

A mother from Northumberland gave birth to twins less than two hours apart in two different countries.

Donna Keenan, 28, gave birth to Dylan Joseph at about 22:00 BST on 1 July in the living room of her house in Wooler.

After being taken 40 miles by ambulance to Borders General Hospital in Melrose, Scotland, Hannah Rose was born at 23:39 BST.

Miss Keenan and boyfriend, Joe Fox, 24, were watching the final of Euro 2012 when she went into labour.

I was curious to check out if the three rules that I formulated for twin charts would be applicable in this special case of twin births. Those who are interested in my write-up can take a look at Unique features of a twin's chart.

In Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), in the chapter on "Effects of the Bhava Lords", the following shloka talks about the possibility of a native adopting a child.

सुतेशे व्ययभावस्ये जातः पुत्रसुखॊज्झितः ।

दत्तपुत्रयुतॊ वासौ क्रितपुत्रान्वितॊ तवा ॥

The translation of the above shloka is as follows:

If the 5th lord is in the 12th bhava, the native will be bereft of happiness from his own sons. He will have an adopted or purchased son.

It is not difficult to understand how heart breaking it would be for someone in the modeling profession to suffer from this dreaded, chronic disease. But, this brave girl CariDee English who in spite of suffering from the disease not only participated in the “America’s Next Top Model” context, but also won it! She did it in 2006 at the age of 24. She did have the problem since the age of five. It takes lots of guts not just to go public with this problem, in such an industry, but to show that one can thrive in such adverse conditions too, if one accepts the reality and learns to deal with it. Otherwise, she could have been another case of a person suffering from mental depression. 

Charlie Chaplin

Charles Chaplin is one of the greatest entertainers of our times.  He is a legend and one of the icons of American Cinema. This was one of the compelling reasons to study his chart and see his life events from Astrological perspective. Since Moon occupies Lagna in his case, the effects of each house, planet and bhava karakas get amplified as they get the same reference from both the Lagna and the Moon. This reduces the complexity of the chart and renders it easier for the beginners to understand his chart better. Hence, it would be an interesting case to study and understand his life through an Astro-Lense.

The above site gives his birth details taken from his biography. The birth time is given as 20:00 hrs., with a rating of ‘B’. This author has rectified the birth time to 19:51:05 hrs. using his own BTR technique. Exalted Sun has been taken as the strongest planet in the chart for the purpose of birth time rectification. As Sun is also the lord of 11^th house (of multiplicity), one could see prominent effects of multiplicity in the life of Charlie, in many spheres of his life.

Steve Jobs fighting Cancer

Steve Jobs is a well known name in the IT industry. He is the co-founder and CEO of Apple Computer Corporation, which manufactures personal computers, iPods, iPads, iPhones etc. He was adopted at the age of 10 though his biological parents were alive. He dropped out of college just after one semester in 1972. He did a lot of odd jobs to earn few dollars and was even getting free food weekly at the local Hare Krishna Temple. However, the growth of his company Apple made him a rich businessman and also brought him lot of popularity due to the innovative products that they produced at Apple. Forbes estimated his networth to be $5.1 billion in 2009.

As I am particularly interested in Medical Astrology, the news item that said that Steve Jobs is suffering from Cancer caught my eye. Since his birth data is rated ‘AA’ by Rodden’s Astrodatabank, it would be interesting to read his horoscope to understand the cause for his health problems.

Leukemia

through the lens of Astrology

Leukemia is one of the most dreaded diseases that human beings are faced with. Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood or bone marrow that is characterized by an abnormal increase of white blood cells. Leukemia is a broad term covering a spectrum of diseases.

Leukemia is clinically and pathologically subdivided into a variety of large groups. The first division is between its acute and chronic forms:

§                     Acute leukemia is characterized by the rapid increase of immature blood cells. This crowding makes the bone marrow unable to produce healthy blood cells. Immediate treatment is required in acute leukemia due to the rapid progression and accumulation of the malignant cells, which then spill over into the bloodstream and spread to other organs of the body. Acute forms of leukemia are the most common forms of leukemia in children.

§                     Chronic leukemia is characterized by the excessive build up of relatively mature, but still abnormal, white blood cells. Typically taking months or years to progress, the cells are produced at a much higher rate than normal cells, resulting in many abnormal white blood cells in the blood. Whereas acute leukemia must be treated immediately, chronic forms are sometimes monitored for some time before treatment to ensure maximum effectiveness of therapy. Chronic leukemia mostly occurs in older people, but can theoretically occur in any age group.

Sanjay Dutt’s Twins

It was in the news recently that well known film actor Sanjay Dutt became proud father of twins, a girl and a boy. Congratulations to Sanjay and Manyata!

When I saw this news item, I was curious to check-out this case for the conditions that I had specified for twin births in my earlier article titled “Unique features of twins chart”.

Throat Cancer

Michael Douglas is in the news of late for a sad reason. He is suffering from cancer, particularly from throat cancer. He had an illustrious career in Hollywood for the past 40 odd years and has own the Oscar award both as an actor and as a producer. He has also won many more awards for his acting abilities. He is happily married with a beautiful and understanding wife Catherine Zeta-Jones who is also a big star in Hollywood. He has three children one from the first marriage and two from the second.  When people were thinking that he has everything that a man should have, he has stepped into this bad phase of throat cancer. It seems to have resulted from his smoking habit as doctors say that 9 of 10 throat caner patients are either smokers or ex-smokers. People who have quit smoking even 20 years ago also seem to have the risk of getting throat cancer.

Since his birth data is rated ‘AA’ by Rodden, it would be interesting to read his horoscope for the current problem and see how it would turn around in the future.

It was in the news recently that Gujarat Home Minister has been taken into custody by the CBI on July 25, 2010. Soon, his birth details were on circulation in the astrology discussion groups on the net. One can never be sure whether these details are accurate or not. But, it would be interesting to see whether such an event could be explained using his horoscope. If such an event could be explained, probably the birth details are accurate.

Long before, an article was published on this site on “Bandhana Yoga” in detail. One could refer to that get the technicalities covering this Yoga. This article attempts to see whether such a yoga exists in the chart of the native based on those principles presented before.

Every time a new Jyotish technique is offered, it is a challenge to show that the same technique works in the case of multiple births as well. If the technique is sound, it should work well for multiple births also. This article demonstrates the same for the BTR technique offered earlier.

This methodology may not work when Lagna/LL is influenced by 12L (Unless a strong Vargottama or Exalted planet is there in the chart), like:

- 12L in lagna
- 12L is conjunct LL
- 12L in the nakshatra of LL or vice-versa
- Lagna falls in the nakshatra of 12L

Workarounds for these cases are under study.


4. Update on July 23, 2011

Even if a planet is the strongest in the chart, it should not be picked for rectification if such a planet is placed in the 12th house from lagna. In such cases, next best planet should be picked for rectification. In case of multiple births, this rule is applicable to only the first child. For subsequent children planets in the 12th house can also be considered.

3. Update on February 10, 2010

A note on placement of planets at Rasi sandhi

- When a planet is in Rasi Sandhi, it becomes weak if it is less than 1 degree from the sandhi. However, such a weakness is overcome when the same planet is in vargottama state.

- In case the sandhi is a Gandanta Sandhi, such planets should be considered weak upto 3 degrees from the Gandanta Sandhi. And, even when a planet is vargottama when close to a Gandanta sandhi should be considered weak.

This is an endeavour to find the mathematical harmony that Swami Yukteswar is talking about, in the above statement. It is widely understood that the individual karmas manifest through the influence of the nine ‘grahas’ on the native. And, in a horoscope, Lagna or Ascendant in a horoscope acts similar to the needle that is pointing to North in a compass. It is very likely that the Lagna in a horoscope also points exactly to a specific ‘graha’ or planet in the chart. If we are able to determine what it is pointing to, it would be possible to accurately align Lagna to that planet and in the process we could rectify the birth time recording errors and arrive at the actual time of birth. This is the philosop hy behind the research undertaken. This author strongly believes that for a human birth to take place there has to be some well defined relationship between the position of Lagna and that of one of the planets in the chart. The search for an answer began with this assumption and the result is presented here.

Srinkhala

Over the years of my Jyotish journey, I have realized that Srinkhala is a very important concept and also one of the least understood and least used concepts in Jyotish analysis. I struggled to find any classical references to it or even a small commentary on it over the internet. However, I was disappointed. Over the Yahoo groups, many people have asked me to explain what ‘Srinkhala’ is whenever they see me using this term in my analysis/comments on a chart. Hence, I decided to put together my understanding of this for the benefit of other students of Jyotish.

Unique features of a twin's chart

Charts of twins have challenged astrologers since ages. It has been observed that many twins have lived quite different lives over time. People talk about looking into either varga charts or cuspal links to understand the differences in their charts as well as in their lives. However, the focus of this research is not on that but something even more basic. The purpose was to check if the planets leave any specific foot-prints in the charts of twins. Some basic questions that came up were – what are the special characteristics of a twin’s natal chart? Is it possible to know through astrology whether the twins are identical or fraternal? and what the sex of the babies could be? The search for answers began. What was found may not necessarily be the complete blueprint of a twin’s chart. At the same time, it is believed that some clear watermarks could be found in such charts.
